From the moment I began working with Stephen and Alex, I knew their wedding was going to be one to remember.
The two met while working at AMC Networks, bonding over their shared love of storytelling, film, and incredible food. After a few years of dating, Stephen proposed on a beautiful night while the two were briefly living in London. Soon after, the journey of planning their wedding began.
When it came time to find the perfect Brooklyn wedding venue, those passions guided every decision. They wanted a space that felt cinematic, warm, and full of character. Somewhere that could honor their love of movies while also delivering an unforgettable guest experience. After a brief search, we landed on the Wythe Hotel. Its historic charm, industrial elegance, and sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline made it a perfect fit. The private movie theater in the basement for the after-party sealed the deal.
Getting Ready: A Day That Began with Love and Laughter
The day started with Stephen and the guys getting ready at the Wythe Hotel, while Alex and the gals prepared nearby at The William Vale. Both groups began the morning with breakfast and lunch, easing into the day together before the excitement truly kicked in.
While hair and makeup were underway for the girls, the guys enjoyed drinks, laughs, and a relaxed start to the celebration. Meanwhile, my team and I were behind the scenes, setting both the ceremony and reception spaces, coordinating vendors, and ensuring every detail was flawlessly executed.
One thing that was immediately clear was just how loved this couple is. Their wedding party reflected that in both size and spirit. To keep the day intentional and streamlined, we leaned into a thoughtful approach by separating the wedding party into family and friends. Friends were involved throughout the start of the day and in photos, while family took on the formal roles during the ceremony and reception. It truly was the best of both worlds. Everyone felt included, while the key moments stayed focused and meaningful.
Act I: The Ceremony at Our Lady of Mount Carmel
The ceremony took place off-site at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Brooklyn. The church is a breathtaking historic space with soaring ceilings, intricate detailing, and a sense of timeless grandeur.
Founded in the late 19th century, Our Lady of Mount Carmel has long been a cornerstone of the Williamsburg community. Its old-world architecture and reverent atmosphere evoke the feeling of stepping into another era. That made it a fitting setting for a couple whose story is rooted in film, history, and intentional storytelling. The church has also served as a backdrop for modern productions, including a music video filmed here by Sabrina Carpenter. This further reinforces its place at the intersection of tradition and contemporary culture.
The space set the tone perfectly for the day ahead. It felt classic, emotional, and undeniably cinematic.
Act II: An Art Deco–Inspired Reception at the Wythe Hotel
For the reception design, we leaned fully into an art deco, old-world aesthetic, layered with modern elements. The result was a design that felt authentic to Stephen and Alex’s vision.
Gold and emerald lounge furniture, custom cocktail napkins, and a statement bar moment brought richness and depth to the Wythe Hotel’s reception space. One guest described the room as looking like “a bountiful feast fit for a king and queen,” which was exactly the reaction we were hoping for. A menu designed as if we we were dining at a Michelin Star restaurant. Their family and friends were raving about how it was the best food they have maybe ever had at a wedding period.
Tables featured a dramatic mix of tall candelabras and delicate bud vases, layered with fresh fruits like figs, grapes, and chestnuts to enhance the abundance-inspired design. To balance the vintage feel with something unexpected, we introduced a modern twist. A disco ball ceiling installation intertwined with greenery added movement and elevated Boiler Room feel we were going for.
As guests entered the reception, the collective gasp said it all. The couple later shared that watching their guests’ reactions was a moment they will never forget.
Act III: The Ultimate Brooklyn Wedding After-Party
After dinner and dancing, the celebration continued downstairs in the Wythe Hotel’s private theater. It is one of the most unique Brooklyn wedding after-party spaces.
Guests were greeted with pizza, popcorn, an open bar, and even a Charlie Chaplin–inspired lamp to tie back to the movie theme. Playing softly in the background was one of Stephen and Alex’s favorite films, In the Mood for Love. The film reflects their shared appreciation for mood, visual storytelling, and quiet, meaningful moments.
It is not every day that a wedding after-party takes place in a movie theater. Guests were in awe of how personal and unexpected the experience felt.
A Brooklyn Wedding Designed with Intention
It was a long and beautiful day, filled with intention, creativity, and so much love. While it meant long hours for my team and me, every moment was worth it. Hearing the feedback from Stephen, Alex, and their guests afterward made it even more rewarding.
This wedding was proof that when couples lean fully into who they are, the result is a celebration that feels effortless, elevated, and unforgettable.
